Medan American Presence Post Employment Opportunity:

The U.S. Mission in Indonesia has a vacancy for a Public Affairs Assistant, FSN-9*, FSN-92/2011 (Rp. 136,615,067 p.a. full performance starting salary) for the American Presence Post in Medan. The incumbent maintains contacts with members of the local media, public relations officers at Government offices, and religious, political and NGO opinion leaders. S/He assists the Principal Officer and Political/Economic Officer with public diplomacy and outreach activities including international visitors and other exchange grantees programs.

Qualifications Required

All applicants must address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each item.

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, political science, economics, journalism, international relations is required.
  2. At least three years of progressively responsible experience in the media field as a journalist, editor, or public relations is required.
  3. Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English and Bahasa Indonesia are required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  4. A thorough knowledge of Indonesia’s media, political, economic, social, religious, and education environment is required. Must be familiar with key mass media, government, military, cultural, business, and labor leaders. Must have knowledge of journalistic and public relations techniques sufficient to assist with APP Medan’s public diplomacy goals. Must have general knowledge of U.S. political and social processes, and of foreign policy issues important to the U.S. and to bilateral relations with Indonesia.
  5. Must be outgoing and at ease with members of press, government and public. Must have a high degree of initiative and the desire to establish and maintain contacts in coordination with the Political/Economic Officer. Must be able to translate accurately in a timely manner. Must demonstrate sound intellectual judgment, political awareness and professional knowledge.
  6. Must be computer literate, wordprocessing, spreadsheet applications, slide presentations and emails).
